The racial make-up of a Chinese talent show (“Go! Oriental Angel“) contestant has been the topic of discussion across the Far East country.

Neal Medlyn: “Why Won’t You Let Me Be Great!!!”

28 08 2009

Although the show is no longer running, Performance Space 122’s production of “Why Won’t You Let Me Be Great!!!” should definitely be remembered as one of the greatest performances ever! Okay, well….the greatest performance that I’ve seen in years.

WWYLMBG was an interpretive dance performance based on the 2008 Kanye West hit album “808’s & Heartbreak“. Named after a quote from a very memorable blog post from the platinum artist, the show included a wide array of performers acting out the melodies of the best-selling LP. However, Neal Medlyn left his mark on the show with his rendition of “Welcome to Heartbreak” & “Pinocchio Story”.

After doing a little more research, it seems that Medlyn’s been “re-creating” tunes for quite some time. Check out the footage of Medlyn’s hilarious version of Phil Collin’s In the Air Tonight after the jump….

Has anybody else heard of “Quarterlife”?

26 12 2007

Since I woke up in a frightened rage from a somewhat cannibalistic dream that I had (…probably from watching Futurama – you know the episode when Bender learns how to be a chef and Frye almost gets a back-alley surgery) and I decided not to dissect its true meaning, I’d rather talk about a slight annoyance, “Quarterlife.”

What is this 11-letter word and why is it always trying to grab my attention as I login to my MySpace page? What does it want from my fabulous existence?

Well, it’s apparently an online series created by Marshall Herskovitz, Emmy award winner, and his writing partner Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai, I Am Sam, Traffic). “Quarterlife” chronicles the life of a few 20-somethings who appear to be artsy and upset. (You know, the generation’s cool & hip “debby-downers”.)

Not only is QL a series, but its origin traces back to qLIFE, a place to find information and resources for your creative life. Aside from being tossed around social broadcasting websites to social networking websites (YouTube, MySpace), the series has drawn a crowd with its impressive 700,000 views of its first episode.

What amazes me its the series’ buzz. According to the New York Times, the show received 100,000 more views on their two latest webisodes within the first 24 hours of premiering.

Take a peek… here!

“Quarterlife”, considered Internet’s best-wrought original series to date, will continue its trek to the mainstream media when it heads to NBC (irony anyone?) And although, I don’t co-sign easily, I figure I’d jump on the bandwagon early and practice posing as a trendsetter (everyone else is doin’ it).

Big Homie’s regrets…?

In a recent interview, Jay-Z talks with Rolling Stone about the seemingly effortless marketing plan for “Kingdom Come.” He also shed some light on the backstory regarding Kanye’s “Big Brother.”

I’m back…

31 07 2007

After only enjoying 3 weeks out of this beautiful summer season, I’ve decided to started blogging my rants and spare the good folks I call “friends.”

Just this past weekend I passed up a great opportunity to hit up Randall’s Island for the RocK the bells concert…

…to go to Dorney Park! Boy, do I feel like an ass!

On another note, I have got to compliment Tameka Foster on her gangsta. True, her and Usher postponed the wedding, but that’s exactly my point. Postponed… It’s still going to (eventually) go down. Plus, she’s got a hood bun in the oven. She’s got Ursher’s ass for at least another 18 years. (…Cheaper to keeper, Ush!)

Who said golddigging was an exercise in futility?

I know I’m a little late, but…

21 05 2007

Apparently, there was a media uproar due to the stop-snitchin’ movement about 4 weeks ago on CNN & the most accurate news channel broadcasted, Fox News.

After lookin’ over the numerous interviews, I can’t help but wonder why these news correspondents feel as if this is an open & shut issue. If you want to talk about why these urban neighborhoods choose to exercise the rule (stop-snitchin’), you’ve got to realize & understand why there is a stigma attached to snitching in the first place. I believe that is so unfair for these correspondents to assume that it is some hip-hop phenomenon.

When has helping out the police (with anything) ever helped? Also, why should I help the cops, when I know the very next thing that they’ll do is call me into question?

Stop callin’ out hip-hop because people have evaded such issues as snitchin’ & “cooperating with the police” for decades.

A few choice reasons why people choose not to hit up 5-0:

1. Most people who have the option & info to inform the police are those who are attacked by the boys in blue. Why would I run up on a cop for anything at all? Why should I invite that kind of attention?

2. What’s the ratio of thoroughly investigated/solved cases to unsolved cases with witness assistance?

I really shouldn’t have to remind you of the many rappers, immigrants, and many African-Americans & Latinos killed for no reason whatsoever.

I realize and understand that it is wrong to not speak up in these situations, but I can’t understand why there aren’t questions as to “What happens to you when you snitch?” (Your life is now in danger from crooked cops to neighborhood urchins both  ready to snuff you out in a hearbeat.) It’s a reality that most are willing to neglect.

For all those who question the aforementioned rule, think about this. Yes, these rappers are interested in business & not necessarily interested in the lives’ of the children they influence. On the other hand, who are you to question me and my decision to avoid the police at all costs? Are going to help me when I’m being followed in my hood? Are you interested in my well-being?

So, why is it so important for you bash an entertainment figure that I choose to watch & support? In the end, it the individual’s choice and responsibility to choose their own actions.

In terms of children and teens who look up to them….where the hell are the damn parents? I don’t care how many “blinged up” fools are hoppin’ on the television and rappin’ on the radio. The parent is supposed to be the most influential figure in that child’s life.

No if’s, and’s, or but’s.

Since when did officials (political) and news anchors (CNN/Fox News/60 Minutes) give a sh!t about how I feel about talking to jake?

….when shit in Iraq calmed down or maybe because the head of the World Bank is catching heat for sliding off some official bread to his girl…..

Peace & Love

It’s me, bitches!…

31 03 2007

I’m back from a well needed hiatus. I also want to mention that I celebrated my 22nd birthday last Monday. And unexpectedly, this was probably the smoothest year yet. My unhappiness level was at a mere 25%.

Well, I said all of that to say…..”Who else kicks ass like the little one?”

:)

Anyway, a lot has occured since my last post. But this monstrously embarrassing display of stupidity should make up for all of my time off.

Tomfoolery brought to you by Karl Rove. (Noticed how the extremely darker man was asked on stage- to add some “street cred” to the  all ready amazing performance.)

Now I cannot believe that little scott storch has had the audacity to have a beef with Timbo. I heard very little about this situtation. And then I saw something that explains it quite well for me. Enjoy!

Lastly,  I don’t know about any of you fools, but I’m going to check out “Blades of Glory” sometime this weekend!!!

Thank you, Will Ferrell, for making my Spring Break that much brighter!

Peace & Love
