Allow me to reintroduce myself…..

December 25, 2007 Misccindi 1 comment

Hey there…

As I woke up über late this morning (in my super plush bed), I thought, “How should I waste my time today?” Then the exciting thought popped into my head….”Year- in-review blog!”

I don’t celebrate X-mas so please don’t expect some corny cliché post about “giving, good – cheer, or yule-time (what is that, anyway?) rubbish”. Instead, I will be re-capping events from this past year.

Now, I understand that I have not been the super efficient blogger this year (my apologies), but I was too busy trudging the streets of NY, living the party life, getting my BA (I see you, Baruch!), making contacts, and being oh so fabulous. (On second thought, no, I’m not sorry!) Well, all of that has changed….(well, most of it has.)

From now on, your girl will be stepping her game up to some super coverage in 2008. The new year will allow me to introduce a wider range of info from music to business news, and entertainment updates to art exhibitions reviews. I’ll also be updating you on my involvement in other blogs like the DREAM TEAM blog. Plus, your girl will shed more light on the life and times of Misccindi. (Admit it…you’re interested.)

Back to the business at hand…
2007

A year when we learned that even Tv broadcasters can be opinionated & tart-”ish” at the same time…

A year when we learned that legal trouble & breakdowns are the new black… {SEARCH: The usual suspects: Paris, Britney, the Lohan duo, Ellen and the Hoffman himself.}

A year when music excited and depressed us…{SEARCH: Amy(mh), Yeezy(mh), Weezy (killer features this year), Hov(mh), Curtis, M.I.A.(mh), Britney, Feist (mh),Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, Ghostface(mh), Radiohead, Jill Scott, Timbaland, Fall Out Boy, T-Pain, Will.I.Am, Lupe(mh)}

*<mh – must have>

A year when I declared my love to Adult Swim… (the Boondocks, ATHF, the Venture Bros. <I heart Hank!>, Family Guy, Shin Chan, Harvey Birdman, Frisky Dingo, Futurama, Robot Chicken, Sealab 2021, Perfect Hair Forever, Metalocalypse)

A year when we learned the meaning of the phrase “F you, pay me!”…{SEE: the Writers Guild of America, NYC taxi drivers, NY Broadway stagehands}

and so much more…

In the following week, I will be posting the most memorable moments (that I can remember…), the surprising under-the-radar info that skipped your RSS feed , and the news relating to the economy, media, business trends, and technological advances. And no, this is not a celebrity bashing blog, but I will be commenting on various incidents (if need be).

Until next time, kiddies…

In a recent interview, Jay-Z talks with Rolling Stone about the seemingly effortless marketing plan for “Kingdom Come.” He also shed some light on the backstory regarding Kanye’s “Big Brother.”

Common & Q-tip @ Nokia Theatre 10.7.07

October 8, 2007 Misccindi 3 comments

You gotta love October in NYC! There is the CMJ (College Monthly Journal) Music Marathon & Film Festival coming back to the big apple a little later in the month. (More news on that next week) And just recently the VH1’s Hip Honors festivities took place in the Greatest City on the planet. This past weekend NYC was filled with some kick-ass parties that yours truly had access to, but completely passed them up for work. (Such an idiot am I.)

All was not totally lost. I was given one of the hottest tickets of the eventful weekend, Common & Q-tip performing at the Nokia Theatre in Time Square. I knew I loved Common to the bone, but I didn’t realize just how much I felt Q-tip. The show got even more live when he started spittin from his old joints from A Tribe Called Quest, rhymes from his new album (due out next February), and most memorably when Dres from Black Sheep came out to perform the classic, The Choice Is Yours.

I can’t even forget the unbelievable DJ Scratch killin’ it on the 1’s and 2’s. He somehow discovered a way to spin records and undress ( unbuttoned his dress shirt to uncover the ill Superman T-shirt- how dope was that?)all at the same time….lol.

Then Common came out and tore it down! He did song after song, favorite after favorite (for me) , and from the crowd’s energy, I believe they agreed with me. I haven’t heard “Testify” in a little while, but after he soulfully performed it he made me want to pull out the “BE” album once more. As a native New Yorker, I expect all of these shows to not only be bangin’, but super bangin’ since most performers bring special surprise guest. But I think this one caught me wholeheartedly off guard. The Teacher, KRS-1, stepped out on the stage with Common to spit The Bridge Is Over. As he performed his last song, I began to preach to my friend closeby that Common is one of the few people, much less lyricist/actor, that makes me happy to be alive.

Check out the video recorded by M. Howard.

Last night was soo off the hook!

I know I’m a little late, but…

May 21, 2007 Misccindi Leave a comment

Apparently, there was a media uproar due to the stop-snitchin’ movement about 4 weeks ago on CNN & the most accurate news channel broadcasted, Fox News.

After lookin’ over the numerous interviews, I can’t help but wonder why these news correspondents feel as if this is an open & shut issue. If you want to talk about why these urban neighborhoods choose to exercise the rule (stop-snitchin’), you’ve got to realize & understand why there is a stigma attached to snitching in the first place. I believe that is so unfair for these correspondents to assume that it is some hip-hop phenomenon.

When has helping out the police (with anything) ever helped? Also, why should I help the cops, when I know the very next thing that they’ll do is call me into question?

Stop callin’ out hip-hop because people have evaded such issues as snitchin’ & “cooperating with the police” for decades.

A few choice reasons why people choose not to hit up 5-0:

1. Most people who have the option & info to inform the police are those who are attacked by the boys in blue. Why would I run up on a cop for anything at all? Why should I invite that kind of attention?

2. What’s the ratio of thoroughly investigated/solved cases to unsolved cases with witness assistance?

I really shouldn’t have to remind you of the many rappers, immigrants, and many African-Americans & Latinos killed for no reason whatsoever.

I realize and understand that it is wrong to not speak up in these situations, but I can’t understand why there aren’t questions as to “What happens to you when you snitch?” (Your life is now in danger from crooked cops to neighborhood urchins both  ready to snuff you out in a hearbeat.) It’s a reality that most are willing to neglect.

For all those who question the aforementioned rule, think about this. Yes, these rappers are interested in business & not necessarily interested in the lives’ of the children they influence. On the other hand, who are you to question me and my decision to avoid the police at all costs? Are going to help me when I’m being followed in my hood? Are you interested in my well-being?

So, why is it so important for you bash an entertainment figure that I choose to watch & support? In the end, it the individual’s choice and responsibility to choose their own actions.

In terms of children and teens who look up to them….where the hell are the damn parents? I don’t care how many “blinged up” fools are hoppin’ on the television and rappin’ on the radio. The parent is supposed to be the most influential figure in that child’s life.

No if’s, and’s, or but’s.

Since when did officials (political) and news anchors (CNN/Fox News/60 Minutes) give a sh!t about how I feel about talking to jake?

….when shit in Iraq calmed down or maybe because the head of the World Bank is catching heat for sliding off some official bread to his girl…..

To all who I’ve “Loved” and “Lost”…

January 10, 2007 Misccindi 1 comment

Fresh from the UK, Lily Allen has finally released a video for “Smile”. I have to admit Lily Allen has been running none stop on the Ipod for about a whole year now.  I honestly see nothing but great things for this spunky songstress, whose music is just as blunt as her looks.

….Cheers to you! (….All you twits that I call “ex-boyfriends“)

Normally, I wouldn’t care what the lil’ homie has to say about anything. Lately, he’s been growing on me.

Check out the interview about Nas, Carmen Bryan, and the book!

Wtf happened to B?

umm…?

My girl Mary finally got her groove back. Sadly, I’ve been bored with her.  ( that song with Luda it’s pretty hot, though) The real story involves my favorite UK artist right now, Ms. Corinne Bailey Rae.

How awesome is she? Her voice is so crisp and full of emotion.

Check out her website @ corinnebaileyrae.net

I know I’m a day late ( studyin’ for finals!), but yesterday was the birthday of Mr. Carter. Not the slick talkin’ Dwayne Carter , But Mr. Shawn Corey Carter.

And I am extremely happy to report that he has completed the video for one of my favorite songs off the album.

Jay-Z – Lost Ones

…As I came across that video, I also peeped the little homie’s new video for the Blood Diamond soundtrack. I gotta say that both of these videos have highly impressed me.

Nas- Shine on ‘em

I’m not even the biggest Snoop enthusiast, but anyone who chews out O’Reilly gets love from me.  Get’em Ms. Lake! ( courtesy of eskay @ Nah Right)

Think you’re hot? Well, the folks @ hotenough.org will be the judge of that. Apparently, the creator of the new dating site, Jason Pelligrino, believes that it is just hard for hot people to meet other people with equal hotness.

Morgan Freeman’s Clickstar enterprise is looking to give movie downloaders a new option.

Tonight the 6th season of Scrubs is premiering and I, for one, am excited!

A surprising cry for the end of racial discrimination by none other than…Paul Mooney.

…and lastly for all of you who can’t understand my fascination with the big homie, check out the interview he did on Nightline (online edition).

Ludacris feat. Mary J. Blige – Runaway Love

(courtesy of Fresh @ Crunk & Disorderly)

Luda made an excellent choice with this one. Even “Big momma” Mary looked pretty cool in it, notwithstanding the brown outfit near the end. ( She sharply reminded me of Aretha )

What’s more entertaining are the cameos…

Michael Rappaport ( Grounded for Life ) plays the perv

Julito McCullum aka ”Little Namond” ( The Wire ) plays the baby’s daddy

Keke Palmer ( Akeelah and the Bee ) plays the pregnant teen

I swore stories like this only happened in movies.

Please respect the Legend’s gangsta! In my couple of days blogging, I’ve not had a chance to discuss my boy Mr. Legend and how much I love his album, Once Again.(Awesome!) Everytime I hear Stereo, Heaven, and P.D.A. ( We just don’t care) I lose my mind!

Lastly…

Beyonce – Listen ( Dreamgirls soundtrack)

( thanks concrete loop)

Even though I’m excited to check out the movie, I wished she did a video for “Resentment.”  Nonetheless, still a simple, yet powerful video.  Mad props go to B! ( Lord knows that the message in both songs are relevant to every last woman in the world.)
