Neal Medlyn: “Why Won’t You Let Me Be Great!!!”

August 28, 2009 Misccindi Leave a comment

Although the show is no longer running, Performance Space 122’s production of “Why Won’t You Let Me Be Great!!!” should definitely be remembered as one of the greatest performances ever! Okay, well….the greatest performance that I’ve seen in years.

WWYLMBG was an interpretive dance performance based on the 2008 Kanye West hit album “808’s & Heartbreak“. Named after a quote from a very memorable blog post from the platinum artist, the show included a wide array of performers acting out the melodies of the best-selling LP. However, Neal Medlyn left his mark on the show with his rendition of “Welcome to Heartbreak” & “Pinocchio Story”.

After doing a little more research, it seems that Medlyn’s been “re-creating” tunes for quite some time. Check out the footage of Medlyn’s hilarious version of Phil Collin’s In the Air Tonight after the jump….

Common & Q-tip @ Nokia Theatre 10.7.07

October 8, 2007 Misccindi 3 comments

You gotta love October in NYC! There is the CMJ (College Monthly Journal) Music Marathon & Film Festival coming back to the big apple a little later in the month. (More news on that next week) And just recently the VH1’s Hip Honors festivities took place in the Greatest City on the planet. This past weekend NYC was filled with some kick-ass parties that yours truly had access to, but completely passed them up for work. (Such an idiot am I.)

All was not totally lost. I was given one of the hottest tickets of the eventful weekend, Common & Q-tip performing at the Nokia Theatre in Time Square. I knew I loved Common to the bone, but I didn’t realize just how much I felt Q-tip. The show got even more live when he started spittin from his old joints from A Tribe Called Quest, rhymes from his new album (due out next February), and most memorably when Dres from Black Sheep came out to perform the classic, The Choice Is Yours.

I can’t even forget the unbelievable DJ Scratch killin’ it on the 1’s and 2’s. He somehow discovered a way to spin records and undress ( unbuttoned his dress shirt to uncover the ill Superman T-shirt- how dope was that?)all at the same time….lol.

Then Common came out and tore it down! He did song after song, favorite after favorite (for me) , and from the crowd’s energy, I believe they agreed with me. I haven’t heard “Testify” in a little while, but after he soulfully performed it he made me want to pull out the “BE” album once more. As a native New Yorker, I expect all of these shows to not only be bangin’, but super bangin’ since most performers bring special surprise guest. But I think this one caught me wholeheartedly off guard. The Teacher, KRS-1, stepped out on the stage with Common to spit The Bridge Is Over. As he performed his last song, I began to preach to my friend closeby that Common is one of the few people, much less lyricist/actor, that makes me happy to be alive.

Check out the video recorded by M. Howard.

Last night was soo off the hook!

I’m back…

After only enjoying 3 weeks out of this beautiful summer season, I’ve decided to started blogging my rants and spare the good folks I call “friends.”

Just this past weekend I passed up a great opportunity to hit up Randall’s Island for the RocK the bells concert…

…to go to Dorney Park! Boy, do I feel like an ass!

On another note, I have got to compliment Tameka Foster on her gangsta. True, her and Usher postponed the wedding, but that’s exactly my point. Postponed… It’s still going to (eventually) go down. Plus, she’s got a hood bun in the oven. She’s got Ursher’s ass for at least another 18 years. (…Cheaper to keeper, Ush!)

Who said golddigging was an exercise in futility?

It’s me, bitches!…

I’m back from a well needed hiatus. I also want to mention that I celebrated my 22nd birthday last Monday. And unexpectedly, this was probably the smoothest year yet. My unhappiness level was at a mere 25%.

Well, I said all of that to say…..”Who else kicks ass like the little one?”

:)

Anyway, a lot has occured since my last post. But this monstrously embarrassing display of stupidity should make up for all of my time off.

Tomfoolery brought to you by Karl Rove. (Noticed how the extremely darker man was asked on stage- to add some “street cred” to the  all ready amazing performance.)

Now I cannot believe that little scott storch has had the audacity to have a beef with Timbo. I heard very little about this situtation. And then I saw something that explains it quite well for me. Enjoy!

Lastly,  I don’t know about any of you fools, but I’m going to check out “Blades of Glory” sometime this weekend!!!

Thank you, Will Ferrell, for making my Spring Break that much brighter!

Peace & Love
